Kosovo, a republic located in Southeast Europe, has experienced a long and complicated history of ethnic and political conflicts, especially with Serbia, from which it declared independence in 2008. This declaration has not been recognized by Serbia or several UN member states, keeping the region in a constant state of political and diplomatic tension. Kosovar nationalism has been a fundamental element in Kosovo's internal politics since the 1990s, particularly during and after the Kosovo War (1998-1999), when the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), an ethnic Albanian guerrilla group, fought against Serbian forces.
